Units of the AWS™ Pedestal System with a smooth, flanged, bottom cap can be used applied directly to a roofing membrane using the bottom cap with or without a bottom shim (1/16" or 1/8"). All pieces of the AWS™ Pedestal System are benignly designed to be membrane friendly. The Buffer Pad component is made of 100% recycled rubber, and all other components are durable ABS plastic. The AWS™ Pedestal System has been compression tested to withstand loads of 14,250 lbs PSI (at 2"), 13,650 lbs PSI (at 6"), and 12,550 lbs PSI (at 15") when used with standard SDR35, 4" PVC pipe (conforming to ASTM 3034, 4.215" OD) as the central component. The AWS™ Pedestal System is compatible with applications of built up waterproof membrane, and single ply membranes, rubberized asphalt (with protection or insulation board as a barrier), also the new PVC "breathable" membrane. Bituminous waterproofing membranes are subject to softening at high temperatures, and a protection board or AWS™ Pedestal System's "Buffer Pad" (1/8" x 6 3/4" diameter) is here recommended. The Joist Plate System is a sister interlocking system, using a new Joist Plate component and the top and bottom shims from AWS™ Pedestal System for leveling and spacing natural products and hydro-pressed slabs (usually 16x16 or 18x18) over wood joists. This system, as applied to your new or old deck, virtually ends the drudgery of maintaining a wood slat deck. 4x6's should be used in new construction, or sistering 2x4's with 2x4's should provide a working underlayment. If your deck is suspended, engineering may be required to support the weight of concrete pavers or other gauged natural products. Consult a specialist regarding load and structural requirements.
